Well, how about that? Another year has just about escaped us! In this 145th installment, we review all of the fun we've had this year, as well as reveal some of our shortcomings (well, Crash, anyway. LoL). This week we have a neat surprise from the RCadvisor, and then we share our CHRISTmas Wishlists along with letters to Santa from Colin, Tony, and Gary. Oh, and one last thing: please check out Tim's plane pictures on our Facebook Fan Page and see if you can help Tim identify two of his recent aircraft acquisitions. LINKS: Our Facebook Fan Page (remember to Like us and upload a pic!) Hey Santa! Gary B. has been a good boy all year and really wants a Super Skybolt, a T-133, a Blade mCPx, a UMX Beast with AS3X, and some uninterrupted shop time, if you please. Colin B. has also been very good and would like a few things, too. He's been jonesing for some Rokenbok (Oh, I've got to get some of these!!) goodies, a Losi Micro HighRoller or Short Course Truck, a Mountain Models EZ Sport, a nice Pin Vise, a Prop Balancing Stand, a Lipo Sack, and maybe some help with some shop renovations. Tony O. has only a simple wish this year, Santa. He just wants to have a look at your list of all the girls that made your Naughty List. ;) Little Timmy would really like to have a new airplane kit that's kind of retro - something like the Cleveland PlayBoy Senior. Santa, I hafta to say, I'm not really sure Timmy has been that good this year. Something about too much jar, whatever that means. Ron really needs something extra special for all the hard work he's done this year. He's really been wanting something like a TroyBuiltModels 30cc SBach with all of the trimmin's to go with it. Of course, he can always use some stocking stuffers like batteries and servos and such. Crash has been the best this year! He'd like a 108" Mud Duck kit, a RadicalRC 66" Intern, a UMX Beast AS3X, and one of those PhlatBoyZ HBot Pro 3D Printers when they become available! TheCrashCast will be going "dark" for the next two weeks, but we will be back the week of January 8th. Until then, we wish you all a Merry CHRISTmas, and a safe and prosperous New Year! |

In this 144th installment of our show, we take you through a simple exercise to find an optimal power system for the Electrifly Cosmic Wind ARF. I am looking forward to getting this airplane in the air, as it looks like it may be quite fast! We also share some cool things found on the web, as well as clue you in on how you can WIN a Mini Intern Kit from our friends over at RadicalRC. Remember, next week is our End-Of-Year, CHRISTmas show, so if you have a CHRISTmas Wishlist that you would like us to share on that show, email it to me at the address given during the lead-out at the end of each show. LINKS: Recommended Power for the Cosmic Wind RadicalRC (sponsor of our Mini Intern GiveAway) You can enter for your chance to win the RadicalRC Mini Intern airplane kit (like what we are building in our soon-to-be-released 3rd Build-Along Series) by simply 'liking' our Facebook Fan Page and uploading a picture of you with your favorite RC Model(s)! One lucky entrant will be selected at random around the end of January 2012 and will win the kit offered up by our friends at RadicalRC. No purchase of any kind is necessary, and only one entry per person is allowed. Good luck!! |

As 2011 starts winding down to a close, we finally get a chance to catch up with our buddies (Mark and Trish Carew) over at PhlatBoyZ HQ in this 143rd installment of our show. They've had quite a busy year this year and yet they just keep plugging away on new manufacturing solutions that we can all look forward to! (Remember, if you've been contemplating purchasing one of the fine pieces of equipment from the PhlatBoyz (Original PhlatPrinter, PhlatPrinter III, or the PhlatFormer), be sure to enter Coupon Code "CRASHCAST" to get $25 off your order! Please note that this offer ends when 2011 is over.) Additionally, Ron talks a bit about the RadicalRC Flightbox that he's started putting together, I share some news about a very interesting FPV plane I found and the prize I won over at XtremeFlyer, and the RCadvisor is back with a segment on servo end points! During this 142nd installment of the show, you'll learn all about Ironing Boards and how they may pertain to our hobby (kinda cool, really). Ron shares some flying he got in during the last week; Tim tells us what he's been able to accomplish with his Mud Duck, and I make excuses as to why I've not really accomplished much of anything. LoL Oh, and our RCadvisor pops in to answer questions about servo and receiver compatabilities. As we prepare to embark on our 3rd Build-Along (Radical RC's Mini Intern Kit), I discuss some considerations and preparation for building a kit. Remember, December 18th is the day we record our annual CHRISTmas show, so if you would like me to read your letter to Santa on the show, be sure to email me a copy! Strange title, right? I think it's aptly named though, as I currently appear to be stricken with some sort of flu-like bug, and the entire recording of our 141st show saw me swinging from the chills to just absolutely burning up! LoL But hey, without a little sickness now and then, how can we possibly appreciate good health? I apologize for being late getting this installment posted. :) We've got some great news items this week, and we also answer some listener emails. Our "Intro to RC Flight" series will most likely span a few shows, with this first show covering some of the things you'll want to think about before even making that first purchase. As seasoned pilots, it is easy to overlook some of the basic answers you guys may be looking for, so please feel free to drop us an email if there is anything in particular that you are needing. We covered quite a bit of ground again in this 118th installment, but perhaps the biggest news is the release of the files for the new QSC QuadCopter, so if you've been holding off on starting your own multi-rotor project because you wanted an inexpensive Quad instead of the TriCopter we did, now is the time to get started! The other big news item we deliver this week is that you can now order your bare, v2.1 QSC Interconnect Board so that you can build your own FSS. So many of you have been asking for this (since the minimum board order through ExpressPCB is 3 boards), and now we are ready to take care of you. This is how it works: PayPal the money to me ($35/board USD) using the email address I provide in this show and tell me which bare board that you want (Arduino Pro Mini-based or ATmega 328-based). I will place the group order on Monday, May 23rd, 2011. As soon as I receive the boards here (7-10 working days from date of order), I will put them in a padded envelope and send them out to you within two days via regular post. Remember, the ATmega 328 board will require you to flash the chip, but if you don't have that ability, we can do it for you (just email me and we'll work it out). Also, we hope to publish the build instructions for the ATmega 328 board, along with the shopping list, very soon. Everything you need to know about the Pro Mini-based board is already on my site. Please remember, these are bare boards only. You have to buy all of the goodies for them and populate them yourself. Well, gang, we are headed to SEFF this weekend! We didn't want to leave you without your podcast "fix" this week though, so we got together for a brief recording. Our 113th show is a short one, and there's no Ask The RCadvisor segment this week, but we hope to make up for this week's shortcomings with next week's show. For our 111th installment, this week it's just me, but I have a guest in the workshop! My friend John joins me and we discuss our custom Wii MultiCopter Interconnect board. As you probably know, this board goes far to tame the wiring mess that is inherent in the Flight Stabilization System for our Multi-Rotor projects, and we've already shared the necessary files so that you can order them yourselves. However, if you do not want to order the minimum order of three boards from the manufacturer, we will start coordinating group orders this week so you can order less than three - be watching for the article to pop up on AllThingsCrash this week with instructions on how you can get in on this! Albeit a bit somber, I take an opportunity to say goodbye to my dear friend Dennis who lost his fight with Cancer last week. If you would like to send a card or letter to his wife Anne, please email me and I'll provide her address. You can also share your kind thoughts on the Online Memory Book, as I am certain that the family would find it uplifting to hear from all of Dennis' online friends. I am certain that many of you have been wondering about my friend and co-host of two years. I shared on the show that Dennis had been having some medical issues and had to step away from the microphone, but the truth is, he has been sparring with cancer for the last three months. Unfortunately, Dennis lost that battle and succumbed to the disease yesterday. Anne, his loving wife, phoned me today to share the news and she advised that he went peacefully, which is all that each of us can hope for when our numbers are up. If you would like to send a card, or letter, or whatever expressing your kind thoughts to Anne and the rest of the family, please email me and I'll give you the mailing address.
Dennis, I know you've gone on to a better flying site, my friend. You will be missed, but never forgotten!

So this week, it's just me and Ron in the workshop for episode #110. We do a little reminiscing and discuss bearing replacement in nitro motors and give a status update on the QSC TriCopter project. Wow! This year's Scratch-Build Club project has turned into more work than last year's design! LOL Bear with us, though - we're almost done! LINKS: DIY Hand-Wired Flight Stabilization System Free Files! (use these to order the Wii MultiCopter Interconnect boards that we use) Join us next week, as we are expecting to have the information ready so that you can order your board kits directly from us so you can avoid that "bird's nest" of wires! Also, be watching AllThingsCrash this week for the setup and configuration information for the FSS. |

In our 109th installment of the show, we talk a bit about electric power systems, especially how they apply to designs like our QSC TriCopter that we are building for this years Scratch-Build Club project. We actually have two systems that John and I have tried and we like them both. Also, the RCadviser discusses issues that are the real root cause to crashes. Last year we kicked off Crash's Scratch-Build Club with a design of my own, the eQSC. The project was aimed at helping first-time builders successfully build a great flying model via easy-to-follow instructional videos, plans, and templates. This year, we're making this an annual event by jumping in on the Multi-Rotor craze with comprehensive resource materials (plans, templates, documents, and videos) so that ANYONE can build their own Quick, Simple, and Cheap TriCopter! We're going to kick it off this week in our 108th installment by talking all about the airframe! Also in the episode, the RCadvisor gives us the low-down on Lipo safety and, of course, we talk about a bunch of other stuff. :) Stuff we talked about: Inexpensive X-acto Blades (Thanks, Randy!) Send Your Letters To Congress! Great e-QSC Landing Gear (Yep, people are STILL building last years' project plane!) National Balsa (Great prices on the plywood and sticks we'll use onn the Tri) HobbyPartz (I LOVE the ExceedRC Alpha Motors!) Quanum Telemetry System (Currently on backorder, but I've got MY order in!) FancyFoam Going Out Of Business :( If you are diggin' on TriCopters and you plan to build along with us, following is a Bill Of Materials you'll need to gather for this weeks' segment: QSC TriCopter Airframe: Two: 12" x 24" x 1/8" Light Ply or Birch Ply One: 3/4" square, 48" long dowel (or Two 36" lengths) Six: 4-40 screws 1 - 1 1/4" long Six: Blind Nuts (preferrable) or locking nuts Six: 4-40 sized washers (or Twelve if you use the locking nuts instead of blind nuts) One: 4 1/2" - 4 3/4" x 1/4" diameter rod (aluminum or music wire) One: 1/4" I.D. Wheel Collar Three: Nylon Washers, 1/4" I.D. Two: Nylon Shoulder Bushings, 1/4" I.D. I am planning to have the templates, instructions, and videos up for the airframe build in the next day, or three. Keep checking AllThingsCrash.com, as that's where all the dope will be!

A guest in the workshop? Youbetcha! In this 107th show we get to talk with Greg Drusjack, owner of Mud Duck Aviation. If you've been in the hobby for any real length of time, then you no doubt know all about the iconic "Ducks" that were designed by Tom Chipley. Over the years, the Mud Ducks have been described as "beautiful", "so ugly they're beautiful", "just down-right goofy", and even "what the Heck!". Whatever you may think of them personally, though, you'll agree that they are a must-have staple for any hangar. Don't believe me? Just build one and take it to your local field and see if you can find ANYONE without a smile on their face when they see it. In this 106th release of our show, Tim and I continue on with our discussion from last week regarding "Unconventional Tools". Also, the RCadvisor tells us about using Expo in our radios for the throttle channel (something I honestly never thought of doing, but will certainly check out!), and we have a special guest in the workshop to talk with us about an inexpensive flight stabilization system for our multi-rotor designs. In this week's installment we'll share some pictures and videos sent in from some of our listeners, and then discuss some tools we use that were not necessarily manufactured with the purpose of RC in mind. Also, the RCadvisor is back with another segment and you get still another update on my TriCopter project (it's only a ball-link away from flying!). This week we discuss perhaps the hottest product announcement this quarter - the release of a new flavor of Spektrum's DSM technology. Was it the "J" standard like what Futaba has with their FASST system that I predicted quite some time ago? It doesn't look like it. Spektrum continues the love with their release of the new DX10T transmitter with a form factor reminiscent of what the folks in Europe have enjoyed for many years. In addition to these discussions, we'll talk about some listener emails, the BluWing Tim is getting at SEFF, and the RCadvisor discusses the use of digital servos with FM transmitters. In our 103rd show we delve into a couple of product reviews! After sharing a couple of listener emails, we'll tell you all about Ron's new Hyperion Sniper and my SlowBipe that I've been trying to spotlight for a couple of weeks now. Also, there's a pretty thorough update on my TriCopter project, and the RCadvisor is back again this week for some continued discussion on finding an optimal Center Of Gravity (CG) for your plane. This week we dip into the ol' mailbag to share some great emails we've received and answer a listener's question about batteries. We also share some cool video links and a great servo database I found while researching a modest-priced tail-roto gyro servo I've been needing for my helicopter. As well, the RCadvisor is back with another informative segment, too! LINKS:

We are smack in the middle of building season here in the states, so it seems as good a time as any to have our annual safety discussion to help our new pilots (and perhaps even some seasoned ones) to stay safe while enjoying this great sport. In this 101st installment we'll discuss safety in the workshop, safety while transporting your toys, and even some safety at your flying site. Remember, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye! LOL LINKS: Do YOU follow this Safety Code? If you are in the Salisbury, NC area on February 19th, you just have to check out this Swap Meet!

Interesting title for a podcast, huh? It's the name of a children's song my kids like on the XM Kids channel on satellite radio, and I found it fit this week's show. This show starts the THIRD year of this podcast; this is our 100th installment (i.e., TRIPLE digits); this week we add a new THIRD person to our team. See what I mean? LOL If you've heard this song before, congratulations - you are now singing it in YOUR head. Happy New Year! In this show we'll introduce my buddy Ron, we'll discuss the loot we got for CHRISTmas recently, we'll get another Ask The RCadvisor segment in, and we'll talk a bit about our resolutions for this year.
